| Customer Reviews: Keeps them busy for hours March 7, 2010 Mom of 2 Wisconsin My mom bought this product for my kids and they LOVE IT!!!! The only drawback on this product is that the water tank is very small. If you are looking to buy this product, I would suggest not even buying the kit. Save yourself the money and just buy the sand. My kids had more fun playing with the sand in a tupperware container. My girls (5 & 3) played with this for an hour and a half! After reading some of the reviews, as a parent I have to wonder, first, do children now a days have any imagination, that they loose interest after 5 minutes with something like this. And second, what's wrong with the parents that they can't spend 5 minutes cleaning up. Here are my suggestions for an easy clean-up. Lay a towel down on the table, use a tupperware container instead of the water tank. When it comes time to clean up the sand, pour the majority of the water out of the tupperware container using your hand to stop the sand. With the little water that is left over, I just poured it into a coffee filter and pour it back into the bottle. With the little sand that was on the floor, I used this really neat thing called a broom. Waa laa - this took me 5 minutes. You have to remember, your child is playing with SAND!!!! It's going to be a little messy.
I found this to be no worse than playdoh that sticks to the bottom on my kids socks and gets tracked thru the house. And as far as the sand getting mixed together (just like playdoh) there is a really simple solution for this. Only let them play with one color at a time. If you really have a problem with the mess, take it to gramma's or save it for an outside activity. My girls have had so much fun playing with this, I'm getting some for my house. I also have to admit, I think I had just as much fun as my girls did. It's just absolutly amazing how this stuff works. So, if you are thinking about buying this product, I highly recommend it. Just remember, it's SAND. :)
Look mom, it's dry! March 3, 2010 New Mom (Chicago, IL) My son was sucked in by the commercials, and we finally relented and got him this stuff for his birthday. I was very suspicious of what sort of weird petroleum by-product it might be, but it turns out it's regular sand coated with a silane coating (trimethylhydroxysilane) to make it hydrophobic. Wiki, here: [...]
This is a great sensory activity, and a good science lesson as well. Expect a mess. Get towels, a cookie sheet, an extra bowl and a dustbuster. The sand will get all mixed up, and it will never look like the commercials (it's marketing). My four year old who hates touching "yucky stuff" was up to his elbows in the tank, making different shapes.
This is not an activity you can leave your kids alone with. The sand is an irritant, and there are lots of warnings on the box about eating it. But it has definitely been fun and somewhat educational for our son.
kids had lots of fun with this February 11, 2010 Rocka (Australia) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
cute tank, great colours. kids loved decorating the tank with the sand. we'd be happy to buy again.
