Real Sounds and Lights
Barbie's Dream Townhouse is decorated throughout in classic Barbie pink, with lifelike intricate details, lights, and sounds. With over 55 pieces and accessories, the house has five fully furnished, deluxe rooms with chandeliers, tiki lights, a fireplace, and a refrigerator that all light up. Sounds include Barbie "humming" in the shower, the kitchen timer, the doorbell, the fireplace crackling, or the toilet flushing.

Along with the realistic lights and sounds, the townhouse also features a pink, personal elevator -- which easily moves from floor to floor with a pull string, and an outdoor spa area with a whirlpool tub and light-up tiki lamps.

Besides the whirlpool, Barbie can entertain her friends by cooking something in the fully stocked kitchen, watching a movie on her pop-up flat-screen TV, or even just snuggling up by the warm, crackling fireplace.

Barbie's 3-Story Dream Townhouse is the play-set for the Barbie lover in your home. The townhouse provides a setting for interactive, role-playing adventures, and includes everything Barbie could need to entertain her guests, or have a quiet night at home by the fire. Your child will love pulling the elevator to each floor, filling up the whirlpool for pool parties, and playing with all of the realistic lights and sounds.

As a side note: While assembling the townhouse, be sure to follow the directions for the elevator carefully, since the parts look similar and could be confusing.

3 out of 5 stars barbie dreamhouse isnt made the best but my daughter loves it.   February 19, 2010
Megan heasley (SEWICKLEY, PA, US)
my daughter wanted this barbie dreamhouse so badly for christmas this year. of course santa brought it for her and she absolutely loves it. however there are a couple problems with the house in general that was brought to our attention on christmas eve as we began putting it together. first off the house itself is quite flimsy and things fall quite easily just by walking the barbies around the home. the second problem we faced was getting the shower to fit in the slot that it should fit into. we tried everything to get that shower to fit into the house but it just would not fit. we were still able to put it in there but it doesnt look right and the sounds from the shower are not made because the shower doesnt properly line up where it should. the elevator also came with the two side pieces extremely bent which makes it more difficult to go up and down. fortunately the elevator does still work despite the fact that its bent. the other problem we faced seems to be a big one with this house, which is the fireplace and tv. luckily we fixed that problem and now my daughter is able to press the button and light the fireplace all by herself.the sounds that the barbie house is "supposed" to make was what drew my daughter to it in the first place. therefore i feel that mattel should have made this product a lot sturdier and made it a priority that everything worked properly in the house. the worst part is that you dont realize all these problems until you have already put the house together and by then you dont want to take the whole thing apart and ship it back (certainly not on christmas eve). the good things i can say about this product and the reason i gave it as many stars as i have is because my daughter does enjoy playing with it. we just wish it would have arrived and worked the way it was advertised.

2 out of 5 stars Way to flimsy...   February 17, 2010

We bought this doll house for our 4 year old daughter and on the very first use the string for the elevator was stretched out. So now, the elevator is not level with the floor. Of course, this does not bother our daughter, but I know how much the doll house cost and I expected it to hold up a little better than this! Also, the scenery in the background comes out of the box already stuck on, and not very well. The corners have started to fold over, and that is very tempting for a little girl. Needless to say, our Barbie Dream House no longer has a library! I guess I am a little bummed that we paid so much for a toy that hasn't held up very well and doesn't get played with as much as we thought. Maybe, if your little girl isn't as little as ours it will be better taken care of and get more use.

3 out of 5 stars Decent Toy   February 17, 2010

The dollhouse was a bit difficult to put together. Once it was assembled, you had to rig certain things to make the electronic parts work. For example, my daughter has to push super hard on the fireplace/TV to get it to light up and make sounds. For the cost I would think it would be higher quality. My daughter does like the toy and it comes with quite a bit of furniture and accessories. Overall, not bad, but definitely room for improvement.

3 out of 5 stars Difficult assembly instructions and warped elevator   February 14, 2010
Robert Johnson (Byron, GA)
We ordered this for our daughter for Christmas and had it overnight delivered so she could have it for Christmas. When we assembled it on Christmas eve, I am very glad I has some adult beverages on hand! The instructions were terrible. The descriptions of the assembly were pictures that looked like poor quality scans that you could barely see. No description to follow the pictures at all. What descriptions were there were originally written in Japanese or something and poorly translated to English. It took forever to assemble this thing! I actually gave up on the chandelier lighting up but thankfully it miraculously worked Christmas morning! I found it pretty ridiculous that we had to put a lot of the stickers on, I mean really, this could have been done at the factory! As an example, some stickers were put on, why not just put the flowers on the window instead of providing poor instructions on where they go?
The elevator is a story of it's own. The elevator itself was warped. This would not be that bad of an issue because it's just cosmetics but the track that the elevator slides on is not smooth at all. It requires two hands and maneuvering of the elevator to get it to slide through the levels. Luckily my daughter figured it out and really loves the toy. She has had a lot of fun with it luckily but I was disappointed in the assembly process and the functionality of the elevator. The price was the lowest I found anywhere and Amazon did a great job of getting it here on time, so I'm really happy with Amazon! This is my first purchase from them and will buy and recommend buying from Amazon again. But bottom line the toy is an overpriced piece that requires patience and wild turkey to assemble. Unfortunately for the elevator portion, You can't return products to Santa!

4 out of 5 stars Just what you would expect   February 14, 2010
Jessica T. Erickson (West Chicago, IL United States)
This didn't take long to put together. My daughter is 5 and loves it! I've even caught my 7 year old son playing with the elevator. There is one part we could not get to work - the fire place. We don't see the fire flicker or move. But the TV does come up, the lights and other sounds work fine. Expensive and big, but lots of fun.
